October 15, 2019

Over the last 6 months we have been lucky to have some visits from some wonderfully keen individuals who have taken the time to develop themselves further

As October Half Term break approaches, I usually take this time to travel to a city around Europe to meet new people, Dancers, Dance Scientists etc.

Almost a year ago I was writing a blog about my time in Helsinki and my thoughts on the IADMS conference. This year, unfortunately I will not be attending the conference in Montreal. I hope all my colleagues and peers have a great time! If you have not been to an IADMS, I would greatly recommend the exper...

The General vs The Specific

To many this may seem obvious, in order to have healthy young Dancers we must educate our young Dancers in longevity as well as the flashy tricks and flourishes we see in 21st Century Ballet.

In an article published yesterday from The Royal Ballet School, the question was posed as to whether current Ballet competition culture is putting young Dancers at risk? with a huge shift towards technical and physical attributes rather than artistry. This article maybe poignant to some, having seen many high profile young "competition" Dancers leave the art form at a young age to purs...

As a non-Dancer and simply an admirer and scholar of the art form. It was a great pleasure to mix and mingle amongst Old and New faces at Cecchetti this past Sunday. This year it was held at Royal Ballet Upper School in Covent Garden, London, and I had the privilege of attending in to represent Science in Dance and support KS Dance as they endeavoured to demonstrate Advance 2 Enrico Cecchetti Syllabus in front of some of the Ballet World's most infamous practitioners, Teachers and Dancers.

I was blown away by the professionalism and delivery that Dani Burgess (1st year KS Dance), Chloe Howarth (2nd yea...

As many people have probably guessed by now... I am not a Dancer and never have been... never will be.

I had the "pleasure" of watching Advanced 1 and 2 Cecchetti from the age of 5 onwards when my Grandad would pick me up from school and drop me off at what was then... "Kate Simmons School of Classical Ballet" now KS Dance.

So it's no secret that I have grown up amongst the theatre and Ballet and my passion for is like anyone that enjoys Dancing and partakes in a career in the profession... just one simple difference... I can't bloody do it.

As a result of this up-bringing I have had the privilege of obs...

Don't worry... this is still an article for everyone.

Parents... you're going to be thinking about keeping your offspring fit and healthy whilst they pursue their dream...

Dancers... maybe thoughts are consistently centred around an old injury or a persistent niggle that will not disappear...

Health Pros... there are plenty of reasons for an against treating Dancers with the same consideration as other athletes but there are also certain conditions we must also consider.

I am sure some will relate the main topic of this article. Patellofemoral Pain (PFP) and Patella Tendonitis or "Knee pain", which tends...

November 27, 2017

Off the back of our very first conference and workshop event there are some very clear messages that stand out from the presentations, sessions and lectures delivered.

This event was designed to bring scientists, teachers, students, professionals and Dance enthusiasts together under the same roof to share knowledge, experience, challenge perceptions and develop ideas on how Dance can evolve from a Health Care and Performance point of view.

To summarise the event, and give the chance for all those who did not get the chance to be there to experience the questions posed and knowledge shared I will sh...
